Now Is The Time To Maintain Your Roof

Hail can damage a roof call S&S Roofing for and Inspection

Once again we are on the cusp of cold weather, ice, snow, and the time of year when roofing contractors everywhere talk about how to winterize your commercial roof for winter. The thought process behind this can be broken down to a few different reasons:

  1. Snow is coming.
  2. Many commercial roofs need love.

Of course, reading about winterizing your commercial roof is not generally something that is going to keep you up at night. You are probably not going to be devouring each and every one of the exquisite paragraphs concerning low sloped roofs, liquid applied roofing systems or even infrared roof scanning. In fact if you are the owner of a commercial building, your roof is probably the furthest thing from your mind. But you know what? That’s okay! Your roof should be the last thing you need to worry about. That is why you need a partner like S&S Roofing. We will take on the responsibility of caring for your roof so you can concentrate on the important things in life. There are so many things to be worried about these days, the last thing you need to be concerned about is your commercial roof. That is, of course, until it begins to leak.

The Humble Beginnings of the Modern Roof

Years ago a caveman walked into a cave and was promptly eaten by a sabertooth tiger. His caveman friend (we will call him Tim) behind him learned that walking into a cave first could result in being eaten. It was at that moment that the concept of, “you don’t need to be faster than a sabertooth tiger, just faster than the guy behind you” was born. Upon killing and cooking the sabertooth tiger the caveman invited the rest of the community to the cave and they marveled about how the cave protected them from the weather. The community members gifted Tim with items in return for food and underneath the first roof in human history, was born the first pop-up restaurant. Everything was good in the cave for quite a while, the members of the community were dry, their food is lasting longer out of the elements and they are staying warm at night. That was before the herd of cave bears moved in and displaced Tim and his friends. They took the knowledge of the cave and built their own freestanding caves with thatched roofs and behold—the modern roof was created.

Be Like Tim

Living outside, early humans realized that maintaining their roof kept them dry. Of course maintenance probably occurred during a torrential rainstorm that dramatically highlighted the holes in the roof. It is safe to say that times have not changed. The first big snow storm will dump a few inches of wet autumn snow on New Jersey and many of those who did not have their roofs maintained will experience the dreaded leak. Of course, flat and low slope roofs are much more susceptible to this sort of degradation over the summer and generally annual maintenance is required. Those who did maintain their roof during the summer will be rewarded with a dry indoor space this winter. The last thing any business owner wants is to have their livelihood damaged due to lack of preparation. Now, just because it is getting later in the year, does not mean it is too late to have your commercial roof maintained. S&S Roofing are your local commercial roofing maintenance professionals, it may not be too late, but rest assured that the clock is ticking on having your roof maintained before winter. Have us inspect and reseal your roof so you go into winter like our caveman friend Tim. Warm, dry, and safe from saber tooth tigers.
